FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local Community to Set Sights on 2nd Biennial Photography Month Sacramento in April 2020
Region-wide celebration of photographic art is designed
to create collaboration and bring people together
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (February 6, 2020) – Led by Viewpoint Photographic Art Center – a non-profit organization located in Midtown Sacramento – and in collaboration with many partners including the City of Sacramento, the community’s second biennial Photography Month Sacramento is scheduled for April 2020. The first-ever Photography Month 2018 was a huge success with 40 organizations participating, offering more than 60 events throughout the region. Looking forward to the next Photography Month Sacramento in April 2020, the enriching and collaborative visual arts celebration will expand to include Sacramento, Placer, Nevada, Yolo and El Dorado Counties.
With a variety of diverse and eclectic special events, activities and activations happening throughout the month of April, Photography Month Sacramento creates exciting opportunities for galleries, museums, educational institutions, libraries, retail establishments, photographers and patrons to share, celebrate and elevate the art of photography. Interested participants are encouraged to create and share their own exhibits, displays, lectures, receptions, workshops, demonstrations, temporary public art displays, art walks and other special events to help showcase the art of photography. The ever-increasing calendar of events is posted on the Photography Month Sacramento website for interested community members to discover, appreciate and enjoy.
“We were absolutely thrilled by the region-wide support of and engagement with the first-ever Photography Month in 2018, and we’re excited to present another vibrant and amazing event,” said Roberta McClellan, Executive Director for Viewpoint Photographic Art Center and the event director. “The month-long focus offers a way to encourage more people to explore art spaces that will help shape and define our collective local voice as an inclusive and vital arts community.”
Why Photography Month?
It is increasingly important in an age of media inundation to encourage purposeful displays of photography by artists seeking to share a story or a moment of beauty. Photography Month Sacramento creates new opportunities for galleries, museums, educational institutions, photographers and patrons to share a collective experience in the visual arts, which is engaging and highly accessible.
How Does It Work?
Through a series of events and hands-on activities, scheduled throughout our region, Photography Month Sacramento is a biennial event for the visual arts. Interested participants are encouraged to create their own exhibits, displays, lectures, workshops and events to celebrate the art of photography in fun and imaginative ways.
