FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April, 2017
Scheduled for April, 2018—One year announcement
WHAT: A new region-wide collaborative celebration of photographic art reaching across communities, bringing people together.
Sacramento, CA-- Viewpoint Photographic Art Center, a non-profit arts organization located in downtown Sacramento, is creating a new cultural event for the Northern California region, which celebrates the art of photography.
Photography Month Sacramento will take place throughout the month of April, 2018 in Sacramento, Yolo and Placer Counties. With over 20 galleries and museums currently involved in the celebration, more are being added on a weekly basis. The plan is to open the event to all interested organizations who will each create their own special photography event during this month long celebration. A web site will be dedicated to the event and will be launch in April, 2017: www.photomonthsac.org
“We’re making our announcement one year out from the event so we can generate awareness and interest—everyone is welcome to participate,” said Roberta McClellan, Executive Director for Viewpoint Photography Art Center and the event architect. “We wanted to bring together the Sacramento and surrounding area arts community to collaborate on a powerful series of photography exhibits, public art displays, workshops and lectures as a way to get more people into art spaces to share and define our local voice as an inclusive and vital arts community.
ABOUT
Why Photography Month?
It is increasingly important in an age of media inundation to encourage purposeful displays of photography by artists seeking to share a story or a moment of beauty. Photography Month Sacramento creates new opportunities for galleries, museums, educational institutions, photographers and patrons to share a collective experience in the visual arts, which is engaging and highly accessible.
How Will It Work?
Through a series of events and hands-on activities, scheduled throughout our region, Photography Month Sacramento will create a new bi-annual event for the visual arts.
Participating museums, galleries, schools, restaurants, bars, retailers and more, will create their own exhibits, displays, lectures, workshops and events to celebrate the art of photography. The month long calendar of events will be posted on the Photography Month web site: www.photomonthsac.orgwhere activities will be kept up-to-date and shared with other event sites in our region and participating organizations.
What is Viewpoint Photographic Art Center’s Role?
Viewpoint serves as the nerve-center for Photography Month by developing and orchestrating events, creating collaborations, seeking funding and helping to spreading the word.
Who’s Participating?
A number of museums, galleries and educational institutions have expressed interest in participating. Many have already agreed to create programming for Photography Month and will be added to the PM web site. The web site will be updated on a monthly basis with new partners and activities.
All are welcome and encouraged to create programming for this month long celebration of photography.
